When the leaves change color so does the atmosphere of the Mountainside Theatre in Cherokee. This year, the Cherokee Historical Association is working with director and producer Brian Clowdus to bring the Sleepy Hollow Experience to Cherokee.

Immersive and entertaining, there is something for everyone in this definite must-see for the Halloween season. While most everyone is familiar with the story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, Clowdus has brought his own spin on to Washington Irving’s tale by injecting it with humor and music.

The Sleepy Hollow Experience, as shown on opening night on Thursday, Oct. 17, is running at the Mountainside Theatre in Cherokee through Sunday, Nov. 3. (PHILENIA WALKINGSTICK/One Feather photo)

The two lead storytellers, performed by Karley Rene and Cody Taylor, are phenomenal as they carry the story from beginning to end, while Ichabod (Farley Norman), Katrina (Sarah Elaine) and Brom (Thaddeus Walker) are brilliant and full of energy. It is obvious that the cast and crew have put their hearts in the production, and when joined by special effects, lighting, and music you have the perfect setting for this performance.

While I have grown up around the Mountainside Theatre, it was nice to see it being utilized in the off-season and taking a chance on a new project. I highly recommend checking out the show and supporting our local venue.

I do remind you that the Mountainside Theater is an outdoor venue so you should plan to dress warmly and be aware of your surroundings. There are pyrotechnic effects that will cause some screams and jumps, but it is a wonderful family friendly event that is loads of fun.

The Sleepy Hollow Experience at Mountainside Theatre runs through Sunday, Nov. 3 with the Thursday and Sunday 9:30 p.m. showing discounted to 50 percent off for local community members. For more information or tickets visit https://www.cherokeehistorical.org/the-sleepy-hollow-experience/.
