Upcoming single-lane closures on the Park’s Spur

by Apr 12, 2019General Announcements

Great Smoky Mountains National Park maintenance crews will implement temporary, single-lane closures along the north and southbound Spur between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tenn. beginning Monday, April 15 through Thursday, April 18 and again Monday, April 22 through Thursday, April 25 for routine maintenance operations.  The single-lane closures will be in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.

The Park implements temporary single-lane closures along the most heavily-trafficked park roads for all roadside work conducted on foot including litter patrol, string trimming, shoulder reconditioning, and culvert cleaning. These temporary closures better ensure the safety of workers along winding roadways with high traffic volumes. The roadways will remain open during these times, but motorists should anticipate traffic delays and are asked to reduce speeds and use extra caution.

On Tuesday, April 23, Keep Sevier Beautiful and the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce Foundation are hosting a volunteer litter pickup opportunity along the Spur between 9 a.m. and noon in honor of Earth Day. Participants will pick up litter in areas where single-lane closures have been implemented. For more information about participating in this opportunity, contact Keep Sevier Beautiful (865) 774-6677.
