Whittier-Cherokee Precinct elects Officers

by Mar 12, 2019NEWS ka-no-he-da

The Swain County Democratic Party Whittier-Cherokee precinct met recently to elect officers and delegates to the County Convention.  New Precinct officers are Chair Brenda Donargo from Whittier, Vice Chair Salina Lee from Cherokee, and Secretary Mary Herr from Cherokee.

The precinct’s main goal for 2020 is to get people out to vote.  In the 2018 mid-term election, only 39 percent of the registered voters in the Whittier-Cherokee precinct voted.  All of the other precincts in Swain County had at least 50 percent or more people who voted.   Other goals are to do voter registration, have a post card writing campaign and getting more young people involved in the political process.

All Democrats and potential voters are invited to the next Whittier-Cherokee precinct meeting on Tuesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. at the Chestnut Tree Inn.   More info will be forthcoming about potential speakers at this meeting.

To get involved with the precinct or for more information, please contact Brenda Donargo 488-1118, Salina Lee, or Mary Herr 497-9498.
