SENIOR GAMES: Cherokee seniors rack up medals at State Games

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians was well represented at the N.C. Senior State Games this year.  Medals were won in many various sports including track and field, basketball, shuffleboard, bocci ball, bowling, golf, and more.

“We are proud of the dedication and hard work our seniors do at North Carolina State Senior Games,” said Janell Rattler, Cherokee Senior Games coordinator.  “They represent our Tribe to the best of their ability and then some!”

Medalists included:

  • Edith Crowe: horseshoes, gold medal; bocci ball, gold medal
  • Willard McCoy: 100M dash, silver medal; standing long jump, bronze medal
  • Geraldine Thompson: football throw, bronze medal; basketball, bronze medal; bocci ball, bronze medal
  • Lyman Clayton: bocci ball, silver medal; 1500M Race Walk, bronze medal
  • Berney Clayton: long jump, silver medal; 1500M Race Walk, bronze medal
  • Sylvester Crowe: horsehoes, gold medal; shuffleboard, gold medal; corn hole, bronze medal
  • Loretta Crowe: discus, gold medal; corn hole, bronze medal; long jump, silver medal; shot put, silver medal; football throw, silver medal; softball throw, silver medal
  • Loretta Bolden: billiards, gold medal; basketball, silver medal; discus, bronze medal; shot put, bronze medal
  • Loretta Welch: billiards, silver medal
  • Annie Owens: basketball, gold medal
