One Feather wins 14 NC Press Awards

The Cherokee One Feather garnered a total of 14 awards at the 2014 North Carolina Press Association (NPCA) Editorial, Photojournalism, and Advertising Awards banquet held on Thursday, Feb. 26.  Reporter Scott McKie Brings Plenty won a total of nine awards and Advertising Sale Rep. Amble Smoker won five.  As a team, the two took second place in the Sports Coverage category for Division A.  Due to winter weather the day of the banquet, the two were unable to travel and the awards were sent to the paper this week.

Amble’s other awards included:

  • 2nd Place, Best Color Retail Ad
  • 2nd Place, Best Newspaper Promotion
  • 2nd Place, Best Small Ad
  • 3rd Place, Best Use of Color in Ad

Scott’s other awards included:

  • 1st Place, Arts and Entertainment Reporting
  • 1st Place, Headline Writing
  • 1st Place, Best Color Institutional Ad
  • 2nd Place, General Excellence for Websites
  • 2nd Place, Best Food Ad
  • 3rd Place, Arts and Entertainment Reporting
  • 3rd Place, Appearance and Design (layout of paper)
  • 3rd Place, Best Use of Color in Ad

This was Amble’s first year with the paper.  Scott, in his sixteenth year with the paper, has won a total of 25 NC Press Awards since the Cherokee One Feather joined the NCPA in 2009.
