Hello. I recently came across your article “Descendants of Civil War soldiers remember William Holland Thomas”. That was a very good article. Being a great- great grandson of William Holland Thomas, I was glad to see he had been recognized by the local Camp 2231. Thomas was quite a mountain of a man with his accomplishments.

My grandmother, Love Thomas Hughes, was born in Whittier, a daughter of William, Jr., and grew up in an old home place adjacent to the old prison there. She married and moved to Asheville in the early 1900s. Her family, my mother and her siblings, were quite proud of Colonel Thomas and their heritage. We descendants all have wonderful memories of family discussions. I forwarded your article to several of my cousins. They all were appreciative of this recognition.

Our thanks to you and all of the participants for the recognition from myself, my mother, and my group of Colonel Thomas’ descendants.

Sincerely,

Paul L. Duncan II
