OJT (ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING) SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

The Boys Club is now taking applications for positions for the On-the-Job Training program.  Closing Date:  Friday, May 2.  Please check for details in the Employment Section in this edition of the One Feather.  Students, if selected, will work from Monday, June 9 through Friday, Aug. 1.

 

CHILD CARE ASSISTANT TEACHER

There is a vacancy in the Child Care Department of the Boys Club for an Assistant Teacher.  Closing date for this position is Friday, May 2.  See the Employment Section of this edition of the One Feather for details.

 

WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

The Cherokee Children’s Coalition will sponsor The Week of the Young Child May 5 through May 9.  The Children’s Fair will be held on Thursday, May 8.  The purpose of

The Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. For more information contact Amanda Bradley 554-6592.

 

THE CHEROKEE DAY OF CARING IS CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF GIVING BACK!

The Cherokee Boys Club and many other programs will participate in the Annual Day of Caring again this year.  This year’s event will take place on Thursday, May 15th.  Volunteers will report to the Fairgrounds at 8a.m. for directions and will immediately thereafter report to their job sites.  There will be a dinner to celebrate the event and recognize the Quiet Heroes and Good Neighbors at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort

in the Council Fire Ballroom at 6p.m. on Thursday, May 15.  All volunteers and homeowners are invited to the dinner.  If you are interested in volunteering for this year’s Day of Caring, please send an e-mail to Deb Mintz at dmintz@cpfdn.org with your name and any building or construction skills that you have.  You may also call Deb 497-5550.

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO:

 

Sean Lawless and his wife Molly on the birth of their daughter, Mercy June, who was born on March 25 weighing 8 lbs. 13 oz.  Sean works in the Club’s Construction and Facilities Department.  Mercy June is also the granddaughter of Board Member Wanda Lawless and her husband Tom.

 

Cindi Squirrel on the birth of her second granddaughter, Finley Cree, who was born on April 2 to Cindi’s son Jakeli Swimmer and Holly Jackson weighing 7 lbs. 15 oz.  Cindi also works in the Club’s Construction and Facilities Department.

 

Andrea Swayney and Clyde Dull on the birth of their second grandson, Lincoln Sga-ya-gz-sda Stephens, who was born on April 24 to Ashleigh and Cory Stephens.  Lincoln weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz.  Andrea works in the Club’s Administration Department and Clyde works in the Club’s Bus and Truck Department.

 

CONGRATULATIONS

More congratulations to the seniors and their families of the Lady Braves Soccer team who were recognized Thursday in their match against Mitchell.  The four seniors are Taran Swimmer, Anna Cline, Andrea Cedillo and Avery Mintz.

 

Congratulations to Stevie Sutton who took first place in shot put competition in the SMC Championships.  Stevie reached her personal best with a 36’6” throw.

 

Congratulations to Anthony Toineeta who placed second in Pole Vault competition setting a new school record of 9’6”.

 

Congratulations to Kendall Toineeta who placed second in the 800m and third in 1600m.

 

Congratulations to Darius Lambert who won first place in the 1600m run and second place in the 800m run in the Boys Middle School Competition.

 

Regional competition will be held on Saturday, May 3 at A. C. Reynolds High School.
