As the final buzzer echoed through the Rosman gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 23, the spectators in attendance became witness to the remarkable 2013-14 run of the Cherokee Middle School Lady Braves basketball team.  With the 48-18 victory over the Rosman Tigers, the Lady Braves cemented their place in history and accomplished something truly special.  The decisive victory over the Rosman Tigers not only bequeathed the Smoky Mountain Conference championship but also capped off a historic undefeated regular season.

Coach Peaches Squirrel stated, “These girls were dedicated and worked really hard this year.  They never complained about putting in the work.  Even when we asked them to run twenty sprints, they were always willing to line up and do it.”

The Lady Braves indomitably jumped out to a commanding 20-4 lead in the first quarter, a lead to never be in doubt and never relinquished.  The young Braves continued to extend their lead while the well-disciplined defense remained resolute and stymied their opponent.

Timiyah Brown led the Lady Braves with 14 points, while Tori Teesateskie added 11 and Macie Welch with 8.  Other scorers included: Jordan Maney 4, Kaylee Locust and Breece Saunooke both with 3, Jamie Lossiah and Carla Wolfe with 2.

After an impressive and successful season, the future looks bright for Lady Braves basketball.  Coach Squirrel reiterated this sentiment when she stated, “hard work will take these girls far.”

With a perfect regular season and their first win of the SMC tournament already in the bag, the CMS Lady Braves continue their quest for perfection as they take on the winner of the Hiawassee Dam vs. Robbinsville game on Saturday, Feb. 1.
