Douglas Allen Lambert – obituary

Douglas Allen Lambert, 55 of the Birdtown Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at Mission Hospital.  Doug was born Aug. 6, 1958 in Cherokee. He was the son of Joseph G. Lambert, Jr. and Alice Rose Lambert.

Doug was a 33 year employee of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, 17 years with the HELP Program at Tsali Manor, and 16 at the Water Department. The last few years he spent as a Supervisor, over 3 crews. Doug spent his entire career helping others. Doug also received several awards for years of service. Doug graduated from Cherokee High School in 1976, and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Montreat College.

He liked to fish, do yard work, ride his Harley motorcycle, and spend time with his family. He loved his home in the mountains.

He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Kimlyn Sneed Lambert, and his precious daughter who shared his birthday, Jessica Rose Lambert of the home; two stepsons, John Daniel (Jessica) Hall, and Jordan Travis (Sasha) Sampson; six grandchildren, Travis, Kylee, and Andre Hall, Korbin, Kollin, and Maverick Sampson; one brother, Joseph R. (Mary) Lambert of Cherokee;  special niece Lindsay Lambert; aunts, Mary (Bill) Booth, Phyllis Coons, Lib (Dan) Keiffer, Linda Carter, Nancy Long, all of Cherokee and Brenda (Larry) Johnson of Clyde; uncles, Ray (Cathy) Rose, Teddy (Marie) Rose, and Don Rose all of Cherokee; in-laws, John G. Sneed Jr. and Elaine Sneed of Rock Hill, SC, and numerous cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ted and Mildred Rose, Joseph G. Lambert Sr. and Louisa Goforth Lambert; a sister, Debra Lambert; and an uncle Dale Rose.

A visitation was held on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Long House Funeral Home with a celebration of his life being held immediately following in the Chapel that was officiated by Pastors Percy Cunningham and Danny Sweet.
