BASKETBALL: Braves, Lady Braves top 90 points in wins

ROSMAN – The Cherokee Braves (7-9) and the Lady Braves (14-2) both topped 90pts in wins at Rosman on Friday, Jan. 17.  The Braves won 95-76, and the Lady Braves won big over the Lady Tigers 92-52.

Avery Mintz shot an impressive 68 percent from the floor as she poured in 36pts to lead Cherokee.  Overall, the team shot 51 percent compared to Rosman’s 36 percent.

The Lady Braves also had 16 steals to the Lady Tigers’ 1.  Kendall Toineeta, who leads all of WNC in with 5.0 steals/gm, led with 9 steals with Mintz adding 4.  Toineeta, who is also third in WNC in assists with 5.2/gm, eclipsed her game average with 11 in this game.

Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Le Le Lossiah 13, Kendall Toineeta 16, Bree Stamper 10, Miranda Smith 8, Brionna Jumper 6, and Peri Wildcatt 3.

Rosman scorers included:  Callie Chappell 21, Bethany Green 2, Jenah McCall 4, Selina Hoxit 8, Lauren Mahoney 6, Candace Petit 9, and Rachel Owen 2.

Dustin Johnson led the Braves with 21pts followed by Jesse Toineeta with 17.  Overall, the Braves barely outshot the Tigers (42 percent to 41).  But, Cherokee played the possession game better having 18 steals to Rosman’s 0.

Kennan Panther led Cherokee with 5 steals with Johnson and Toineeta having 4 each.

Other Braves scorers included:  Jason McMillan 9, Jayce Girty 2, Brandt Sutton 9, Simon Montelongo 1, Kennan Panther 4, Darius Thompson 10, Chris Queen 8, and Eli Littlejohn 14.

Rosman scorers included:  Jacob Voris 3, Kaegan Dalton 10, Ashe Bennett 10, Zac Stroup 21, Aaron Newman 1, Keen Jones 9, Tanner Green 16, and Chris Bennett 6.
