CLUB SCHEDULE

Wednesday, Dec. 5 – School Early Release – 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 12 – Board of Directors Resolution Deadline – 8:30 a.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 18 – Health Screen – 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 19 – Board of Directors Meeting – 8:30 a.m.

Thursday, Dec. 20 – Safety Committee Meeting – 11:30 a.m.

Monday, Dec. 24 – School Furlough Day

Tuesday, Dec. 25 – Christmas Holiday (School, Club and Tribal Holiday)

Wednesday, Dec. 26 – 31 – School Christmas Vacation

 

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS

The Cherokee Boys Club extends sincere sympathy to the friends and family of former Chief, Vice Chief and Council Member Gerard Parker.  Mr. Parker passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1.  Please remember the family in your prayers.

 

2013 DATE LOGS AVAILABLE

The 2013 Cherokee Boys Club Executive Desk Calendars are now available.  If you would like to receive a calendar, please see the Receptionist at the Information Window of the Club.  There will be a limit of two calendars per person.  We apologize but we will not be able to mail calendars.

 

SANTA BRAVES NEWS!

A table will be set up on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Middle School/High School Lunchroom from 12:30 p.m. to 2p.m. for school employees to purchase Santa Brave stockings and to accept donations of non-perishable food items and unwrapped children’s gifts.  A table will be set up at the December 7 basketball game against Swain County to sell stockings.

There will also be free entry to the basketball game on Friday, Dec. 7 with the donation of four (4) cans of non-perishable food items per person OR one new unwrapped gift for a girl or boy.  AND There will be a 3-point shootout during half-time of the Varsity Girls and Boys games on Dec. 7 (winner receives a Free Combo Meal from Dairy Queen).

CHRISTMAS STORE AND FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS

The Family Support Services’ office would like to thank everyone for their donations of cash, toys and food to the annual Christmas Store and Food Pantry.  These two programs are sponsored by the Family Support Services office to help provide gifts for children and food for families who are experiencing difficult times during the holiday season.

Special thanks to the Jackson County Moose Lodge for their donation of $1,535 and to the winner of the Fall Festival’s “Pretty Legs Contest” Emerson Sequoyah who donated his winnings of $259.25.  Please see the photographs and articles for these donations in other locations of the One Feather.

 

CHARLES GEORGE ARENA DEDICATION

The Cherokee High School Arena Dedication Ceremony will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6p.m.  at the arena.  The arena will be rededicated in memory of Charles George, an EBCI tribal member, who received the Medal of Honor.

The Medal of Honor is the United States of American’s highest military honor awarded for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty.  It is awarded by the President of the United States in the name of Congress.
