Swain, Murphy advance to state finals

The Swain Maroon Devils and the Murphy Bulldogs both advanced to the state finals in their respective divisions with wins on Friday, Nov. 23.  Both are set to defend their state titles on Saturday, Dec. 1 at N.C. State’s Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh.

Swain (14-0) staged a huge comeback on Friday to defeat Monroe (11-3) 28-21, and Murphy (13-2) edged previously undefeated Albemarle (13-1) 27-24.

Swain QB Raymius Smith, an EBCI tribal member, threw for 75yds and two touchdowns in the game including a 49yd score to fellow tribal member Greg Tisho.  The Maroon Devils are set to defend their state 1-AA title against SW Onslow (13-1) at 3pm.

Murphy, which has several EBCI tribal members on the squad as well, is set to defend their state 1A title against Plymouth (14-0) at 11am.
