Smoker indicted on embezzlement and other charges

Amanda Smoker, an EBCI tribal member, has been indicted on several federal charges.  According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she was indicted on the following counts:

– One count of embezzlement and theft from an Indian tribal organization; maximum penalty is five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine

– One count of wire fraud; maximum penalty is 30 years imprisonment and $1,000,000 fine

– One count of money laundering; maximum penalty is 20 years imprisonment and a $100,000 fine

She has been released on bond.  It is important to remember that she has only been charged with the offenses listed and should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
