PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT

Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program

Domestic Violence is a pattern of coercive behavior that is used by a person against family, household members, or dating partners to gain power or control over the other party in an intimate relationship.  Examples include:  Emotional abuse, physical violence, sexual abuse, psychological intimidation, verbal abuse, threats, and stalking.

Eligible Clients are individuals seeking assistance with domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or dating violence issues.

Services provided include:

-Victim advocacy: assistance with resources, coordination of services within the program, and    mentoring.

-legal assistance: assistance with filing protective orders, custody, divorce, family law matters, and attorney’s provided.

-court accompaniment: moral support during court hearings.

-transportation: to court, medical appointments, shelter, and other necessary assistance.

-emergency shelter 24/7

-relocation services: assistance with transportation and set-up at new location.

-crisis counseling: available via phone 24/7.

-prevention education: provided to community programs, youth groups, civic organizations, and other interested groups.

-outreach activities: trainings for various organizations, participation in community events, and coordination of various community events.

-case management services: assist with scheduling appointments, coordinating services both on the reservation and outside of the reservation.

-transitional housing assistance: assistance with start-up costs related to moving into a new residence as needed for victims.

Important information: Individuals seeking a protective order or additional assistance through the EBCI DV/SA Program, there is some important information you may need.  If possible, please obtain as much of the following information when leaving:

-Social Security Number for all parties involved

-Driver’s License Number for all parties involved

-Enrollment Numbers for all parties involved (if applicable)

-Date of birth, employment information, and general identifying information
