Cherokee Indian Police Department officers were dispatched to Wagon Wheel Gap Rd. in the Birdtown Community on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at approximately 8:50pm.  Officers dealt with two male subjects walking down the road that looked as though they had been in a fight, and located another male subject at 520 Wagon Wheel Gap Rd. that had a laceration to the neck area. Officers requested emergency assistance for the victim who was subsequently flown to Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment.

No one has been charged with a criminal offense at this time. There will be an on going investigation into this incident. If you have any information pertaining to this case, please call Detective Norman Reed Jr. 554-6617.

Cherokee Chief of Police Ben Reed stated, “I realize that this is limited information and community members want to know what’s going on. But it’s critical that a press release does not compromise a criminal investigation. If and when charges are filed and an arrest is made, we can disclose more information to the public. I do appreciate all of the information we get from the community on various cases, it’s a tremendous help. Thank you!”
