     BRYSON CITY – Richard Monroe Hughes, 68, of Hughes Branch Road, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in a Hendersonville Health Care Facility. A lifelong resident of Swain County, he was the son of the late Floyd and Roseann Thomas Hughes. He attended Arlington Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two step children, Eddie Cucumber, and Jacqueline Cucumber and a granddaughter, Ann Cucumber.

     He is survived by his wife of 40 years Elizabeth Cucumber Hughes, one step daughter, Jenny Bean of Sylva, one special granddaughter, Jessica Lambert and husband Boyd of Bryson City, four other grandchildren, Jeff,  Natasha, Chef and Aaron, and seven great grandchildren.

     Funeral Services will be held 2pm on Friday, May 11 in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Ed Kilgore and Larry Spencer will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park.

     The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 10at the Funeral Home.
