Matt Bryant, an EBCI tribal member known as “UNO” in the music industry was recently nominated for seven Nammy Awards: Debut Artist of the Year, Best Producer, Best Male Artist, Best Rap/Hip Hop Recording (“A Strange Revolt”), Song Single of the Year (“Cant’ Be Human”), Record of the Year (“A Strange Revolt”), and Songwriter/Composer of the Year.

The NAMMY awards are the Grammy’s of Native American traditional, contemporary and Native inspired music. All nominees were voted upon by the national Advisory members of the Native American Music Awards and chosen from more than 200 national contemporary and traditional music recordings originally submitted for nomination consideration.

Bryant (“Uno”) wrote, produced, and recorded vocals for the critically acclaimed “A Strange Revolt” CD in his studio located in Cherokee. It was released in 2010 in stores and on iTunes, and features Cherokee’s rising country artist, Hoss Howard, who laid down the vocal hook on the single “Breathe.”

“It’s a huge honor for me to be nominated for the NAMMYS and have my work recognized after 10 years of writing, producing, and recording music,” said Bryant.  “The music, style and attitude of hip-hop scene has been become a phenomenon in the Native American community. My music incorporates up-tempo, heart-pounding, raw adrenaline injected beats, over lyrics that express my thoughts or life experiences.  I really enjoy the energy of creating hip-hop music and sharing it with others.”  I’m very proud to represent the EBCI and want to thank my family and friends for all their support over the years,” added Bryant.

The Nammy Awards are unique in that voting is open to the public. You can help Bryant win all seven awards by voting for him (he is listed as “UNO” on the ballot) by Sept. 1. at https://www.nativeamericanmusicawards.com/votenow.cfm

Bryant has recently expanded his music career into the Hollywood film industry.  He has been  tapped as the music supervisor for the announced feature 3D film “SKATEGOD,” as well as writing songs for the Cousin Sarah horror film, starring Haylie Duff (Napoleon Dynamite), Linda Blair (The Exorcist), Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan), and Jason Mewe (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).

By day, Bryant is a full-time Harrah Casino employee. But, when he’s not working or in his music studio, you’ll find him making some seriously awesome hot sauce, working in his garden, or hanging out with his wife, Magda, and daughter. He is the son of Carlos and Carmen Queen Bryant, the grandson of Carolyn and Fuzzy Queen, and the great-grand son of Dixie Cooper Arneach and the late Pete Queen and Ethel Bigmeat.
