Smoky Mountain Beekeepers to host Bee School

          The Smoky Mountain Beekeepers and the NC Cooperative Extension Service will host a day-long course in beginner beekeeping Saturday, April 9 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., at the Swain County Extension Office just west of Bryson City. Robert Brewer, University of Georgia’s Apicultural Extension Coordinator will lead the bee school. Brewer is a certified International Honey Judge and Co-founder of the Young Harris Beekeeping Institute.

            Topics covered will include basic bee biology, how to get started in beekeeping, insect and disease control plus more! Afternoon sessions include a panel discussion and demonstrations by our local beekeepers. Pre-registration fee is $15.00 prior to April 1 and $20.00 thereafter or at the door.  The course fee will cover the cost of lunch and reference materials.             Smoky Mountain Beekeepers is made up of beekeepers in Swain and Jackson counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee.
