Locals win at SONC Basketball and Cheerleading Tourney

Four athletes from the Qualla Boundary traveled to Winston-Salem to compete in the Western Special Olympics of North Carolina (SONC) Basketball and Cheerleading Tournament on Saturday, March 6. 

Nicky Etters won Gold in Division 2 of Individual Skills in the Cheerleading Competition.  She was coached by Tammy Etters. 

 Three athletes competed in the Individual Skills in the Basketball Competition including:

  • Jacee Smith – Gold in Division 6 Low Goal
  • Gil Biello – tied for Gold in Division 7
  • Emily Roberson – Silver in Division 4

The basketball athletes were coached by Brenda Gass.
