On Wednesday, March 24, twenty-three students were inducted into the Cherokee High School chapter of the National Beta Club in a 1:30 ceremony, entitled “Catching the Dream.”

The National Beta club is the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America.  The club was organized to promote, encourage, and reward creditable student effort and achievement.  It seeks to advance the ideals of honesty, service, morality, ethical conduct, and leadership among its students.  Finally, the National Beta club encourages and assists students in continuing their education after high school.

Cherokee High School’s chapter of the National Beta club has been in existence for over thirty years.  In order to be inducted into the CHS chapter, a student must earn honor roll status for two consecutive semesters, exhibit good citizenship, and have a teacher recommendation.

“As high school students, we all have dreams of accomplishing many great goals as we prepare for our futures,” said Nic Squirrell, CHS Beta Club president.  “While we focus on attaining our dreams, we must remember what it takes to achieve those aspirations.  As Beta members, we must ‘catch our dreams’ with the threads of leadership, character, service, achievement, and the support of others.”

The following students were inducted on Wednesday:

Senior Class – Allison Sherrill

Junior Class – JaNecie Belt, Steven Lambert, Brooke Lindsey, Robin Mahan, John Roper, Erin Sherrill, Nancy Wolfe

Sophomore Class – Brittnee Arch, Chad Cucumber, Cynthia Guilford,   Rhiannon Hull, Abigail Long, Jada Long, Meshay Long, Jessica McCoy, Jessica Owl, Felicia Owl, Cheyenne Smith, Elizabeth Wahnetah, Kiah West, Alicia Whiteside, and Jeremy Wolfe.

The ceremony was followed by a reception for Beta members and their families, sponsored by PIE (Trish Tramper), Horizons (Suzie Terrell), Cherokee High School, and GEAR UP.

CHS officials related, “We appreciate the many individuals and departments, who assisted in making this program a success.”
