Martin arrested in Multi-Agency Drug Bust

Narcotics Investigators arrested Brandon Keith Martin on Tuesday, Feb. 2 after following up on reports of drug activity at the Fairfield Inn in Cherokee. Martin was in the motel room along with three other people, although no one else was charged.

Investigators seized over $1,900 in cash, 21 Oxycodone (30 mg) pills, and various drug paraphernalia. Martin was transported to the Cherokee Indian Police Department without incident.

Martin is charged with:
– Drugs: Possession of Schedule II (Oxycodone)
– Drugs: Possession of Drug paraphernalia    

Although Martin is being charged initially with Tribal charges, Federal charges will be pending on this case. Martin is currently on Federal Probation for distribution of crack cocaine.

Numerous agencies were involved in this operation including: Swain Co. Sheriff Department, ATF, National Park Service, BIA Drug Enforcement, and CIPD.

Cherokee Chief of Police Ben Reed stated: “There’s a lot of work that goes into a drug case like this and I thank God no one got hurt. Our Drug Task Force is made up of local, state and federal agencies that are committed to investigating and arresting drug dealers on the reservation and neighboring jurisdictions.
