Lady Braves win three, remain undefeated

The still-undefeated Cherokee Lady Braves won three games this past week, but somehow managed to fall one spot to #10 in the Freeman Rankings of NC 1-A schools as of Sunday.  Cherokee crushed Andrews and Blue Ridge and managed to hold off Highlands to go to 11-0 on the season.

Cherokee started off the week in good form as they defeated the Lady Wildcats of Andrews 68-39 on Thursday, Jan. 14.  Celine Lambert led the way with 15 points and 6 assists.  She was followed by Tahnee Arkansas with 11 points and Rayna Davis with 11 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals.

Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Kayla Smith 2, Jordyn Thompson 5, Hannah Youngdeer 2, Paige Jackson 5 (6 steals), Megan Wilnoty 3 (called up from JV for this game), Alexis Maney 7 (4 steals), and Tashina Martin 7 (5 rebounds).

Two days later, Cherokee crushed Blue Ridge 64-15.  The Lady Braves’ top scorer on the night, Casey Driver, has just two points less (13) than the entire Blue Ridge team.  Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Lambert 3, Arkansas 6, Teria Morgan 2 (called up from JV for this game), Youngdeer 4, Davis 9, P. Jackson 6, Thompson 5, Martin 5, Smith 3 (5 rebounds), Maney 6 (13 rebounds), and Meshay Long 2 (called up from JV for this game).

Casey Driver plays defense against Blue Ridge. She scored 13 points in the game; only two less than the entire Blue Ridge squad as the Lady Braves won 64-15.

Cherokee had a much closer game on Saturday, Jan. 16, but they managed to keep their unbeaten status intact as they squeezed by Highlands 55-52.  Arkansas led Cherokee with 15 points and 10 rebounds followed by Lambert with 13 points and 5 steals.  Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Davis 7 (5 rebounds), P. Jackson 12, Driver 2, and Thompson 6.
