Cherokee and Swain split

BRYSON CITY – Cherokee and Swain took on each other in basketball on Tuesday, Jan. 5 and each school came away with a win.  The Lady Braves continued their winning ways as they beat the Lady Maroon Devils 66-40 while the Braves felt to the Swain boys 64-56.

             Rayna Davis led the Lady Braves with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 5 steals.  Tahnee Arkansas, coming off an All-Tournament performance in Landrum, SC last week, added 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals. 

                Cherokee jumped off to an early lead and held a 10-point (31-21) lead at the half. 

                Other Lady Braves in the scoring bracket include:  Tashina Martin 12, Jordyn Thompson 10, Paige Jackson 4, Celine Lambert 4, Alexis Maney 3, Casey Driver 2, and Elizabeth Wahnetah 2.

            Tre Owle had 16 points and Tsaladi Sequoyah added 15 points and 7 rebounds for the Braves on Tuesday night.  Cherokee trailed by eight points (29-21) at halftime and were unable to make up any of that deficit in the second half. 

                Swain’s Ryan McMahan was the top scorer on the night with 33 points.   

                Other scorers for the Braves include:  A.J. Crowe 2, Tyler “Two Bear” Williams 10, J.T. Wildcatt 4, Greg Bradley 9 (4 assists).
