The Cherokee Braves opened their 2009 basketball season at .500 with a season-opening 59-47 loss to Tuscola and an away win (61-47) against Highlands.  Tre Owle is averaging over 18 points a game to lead the Braves. 

Owle led the way with 16 points in the Tuscola game followed by football standout William Carmichael who had 12 points and 3 rebounds.  Storm Sequoyah scored 10 points and had 7 boards and 4 blocks.  Other scorers for the Braves included:  Seth Littlejohn 3, Greg Bradley 3, and Tsalidi Sequoyah 3. 

The Braves got in the win column on Friday, Dec. 4 as they traveled to Highlands and won in double digits 61-47.  Owle poured in 21 points and had 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block to lead the Braves.  Storm Sequoyah had 15 points, 6 boards, 1 assist, 4 steals and one block as well.  Other Braves scorers include:  A.J. Crowe 11, Humbo Corral 1, Tsalidi Sequoyah 5, and J.T. Wildcat 8. 

The Braves play Hayesville at home on Tuesday, Dec. 8 and travel to Murphy on Friday, Dec. 11 before coming home to take on Tasmania Australia on Saturday, Dec. 12.
