CHS Girls open season with Two Wins

The Cherokee Lady Braves are off to a good start this basketball season.  They won a 61-59 thriller over Tuscola in their season-opener on Tuesday, Nov. 24 and followed that up with a 67-56 victory over Highlands on Friday, Dec. 4. 

Kelsey Jackson led the way in the Tuscola game with 14 points and 7 rebounds.  Tahnee Arkansas and Paige Jackson also had good stats with Arkansas scoring 10 and getting 11 boards and Paige Jackson scoring 9 with 6 boards and 4 steals. 

Other Cherokee scorers in the game included:  Elizabeth Wahnetah 7, Rayna Davis 3, Tashina Martin 6, Trae Crowe 2, Celine Lambert 8, and Keona Watty 2. 

Arkansas led the way against Highlands scoring 17 points and grabbing 7 boards.  Davis and Martin both had 12 points to help lead the Lady Braves to their 2-0 record.  Davis also had 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and three blocks and Martin had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. 

Other Cherokee scorers against Highlands included:  Paige Jackson 4, Elizabeth Wahnetah 9, , Kayla Smith 5, Celine Lambert 6, and Jordyn Thompson 2. 

The Lady Braves take on Hayesville on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at home and travel to Murphy on Friday, Dec. 11 before coming back to play Tasmania Australia at home on Saturday, Dec. 12.
