George Owl

CHEROKEE – George Owl, 63, of the Birdtown Community in Cherokee passed away Friday, November 20, 2009 after a period of declining health. George was retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs with 34 years of Service and had done real estate appraising in his spare time. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cherokee Braves and UNC-Chapel Hill.
 

George was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Owl, Sr., his sister June Nephew, grandson, Sawyer White, great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Lequire and nephew, Ray Owl.
 

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hyatt, his mother, Margaret Toineeta Owl, a brother, Raymond Owl, Jr., and wife Madge, 4 sisters, Cathy Blythe, Nancy Owle, Barbara Owl and Betty Moreland and husband Mark, all of Cherokee, daughters, Amy Ball of Caldwell, Idaho, and Teshia White of Green Bay, Wisconsin, step-daughters, Samantha Cole of Chapel Hill, and step-son Jerry Hyatt of Cherokee, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and longtime friend, Bill Beck.
 

A memorial service was  held Monday, November 23 at 2 p.m. at the Long House Funeral Home Chapel on Wolftown Rd, Cherokee, The family received friends one hour prior to the service which was conducted by Ray Kinsland.
 In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Cherokee Boys Club, P.O. Box 507, Cherokee, NC 28719, the Hospice Room at the Cherokee Indian Hospital or the church or charity of your choice.
