The 2018 FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championship began Wednesday, July 11 in Netanya, Israel. Featuring some of the best lacrosse talent in the world, the Georgia Swarm has a number of players on a few of the competing teams. In total, eight Swarm players are representing their respective countries.

The FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championship is the equivalent of the Olympics in the lacrosse world. Playing outside of the US, Canada, England and Australia for the first time in the event’s history, 46 teams – the largest number of teams to play in the World Championship – compete over a 10-day period to decide who’s the best team in the world. Nearly 2,000 athletes worldwide are making the trip, representing all six continents.

In 2014, Canada knocked off USA 8-5 in the finals to win its third World Championship. The two lacrosse superpowers have met in every final round since 1998. Since then, the tournament has grown drastically from 11 participating teams to 46 participants 20 years later.

Team USA and Team Iroquois will play at 1:30p.m. on Thursday, July 12 on ESPN 2; the game will feature seven Swarm players in total.
