The event, held to raise money for the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) at Cherokee High School, featured entries by hospital employees.  The event raised more than $600, and the monies will be donated to HOSA.

The categories included traditional chili, non-traditional chili and cornbread. Over 31 chili entries and 14 cornbread entries were judged.  Cherokee Supreme Court Justice Bill Boyum, Cherokee School Board Chairman Dick Crowe and ALE Officer Josh Taylor were the official judges.  Prizes were awarded to the first and second place winners in each category.

The winners were as follows:

  • Traditional Chili: 1st – Tara Davis, 2nd – Chris McKnight
  • Non-Traditional Chili: 1st – Tera Marr, 2nd – Matt Martens
  • Cornbread: 1st – Carmen Nations, 2nd – Kayla Holland

Prizes were donated by Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, Sequoyah National Golf Club, Cherokee Harley Davidson, Dillsboro Chocolate Factory and the Commissioned Officers Association. Pepsi donated beverages for the event. The Cherokee Indian Hospital hosted the event in the Oconaluftee Test Kitchen.  The CIHA kitchen provided a condiments bar and paper products.  The kitchen also donated drinks which were sold along with dessert donated by Commission Officers Association members.
