This week, the Department of Justice will continue an important series of consultations on voting rights in Indian country. In June of this year, the Department issued a “framing paper” that outlined the persistent problems with voting in Indian country, and made several suggestions for amendments to the Voting Rights Act to empower tribal governments to manage voting on their own behalf.. The schedule and the framing paper are linked here.
