Starting next month at the Tribal Bingo building in Cherokee, SCC will offer a poker dealer certification course that prepares students for work at a casino.

The class meets from 7-11 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays starting Sept. 8. The last class meeting is Nov. 6.

Students will learn to proficiently deal the game of poker, and they’ll be taught the legal and regulatory aspects of gaming from Jason Jones – poker manager at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. Table management skills, communication with players and customer aspects of gaming will also be covered.

Students must attend 90 percent of class meetings and be able to pass an audition on the last day of class to be considered for employment at Harrah’s.

Tuition costs $180.
