AGELINK NEWS

The Agelink staff wants to thank Mission to the World for hosting Vacation Bible School this week and for volunteering each day to help the staff with the children.

Agelink is also having a Spaghetti Fundraiser this Friday, July 19, to raise money for the after-school children to go on an end-of-summer field trip.  The menu will consist of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and a drink for $6 per meal.  The staff will also host a Bake Sale at the same event.  Please come out and support these children!

CHEROKEE CENTRAL SCHOOLS

Cherokee Central Schools are scheduled to begin their 2013-14 school year on Wednesday, August 7.  New bus routes will be published in the July 25 and Aug. 1 issues of the Cherokee One Feather.  Please note that due to budget cuts, the Boys Club will be running two less school buses this year.  It is important that parents check the routes to ensure their children will know what bus number they will be riding as well as what time the bus will pick up each morning.  These changes will be highlighted in the upcoming issues.

CHEROKEE CHILDREN’S HOME

The Cherokee Children’s Home staff is still awaiting the final environmental reports on the new Children’s Home site.  When approved, site preparation will begin immediately. Construction of the new facility will follow completion of the site work.

The residents of the Children’s Home are enjoying several summer outings during their school vacation including recent river tubing adventures and a picnic at the Judaculla Rock in Cullowhee this week.  The Judaculla Rock has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places for its unique surface etchings and ancient inscriptions.

The staff is also planning a field trip for the children to Chickamauga Battlefield just below the Georgia-Tennessee state line before their return to school.  Chickamauga is historically significant for its importance to the Cherokee Nation and for the Battle of Chickamauga that almost changed the course of the Civil War.
