MAY IS A BUSY TIME!

May is an extremely busy time for Club, School Staff and Students.  This is the time when the summer vacation is drawing near.  There are many activities including athletic, academic and achievement award ceremonies, playoff games and regional meets, graduations and preparation for summer school.  Many students are looking forward to taking college prep courses, going to summer school or working to earn some extra money with summer jobs.

The Club’s Bus and Truck Department continues to be busy providing transportation to and from school each day.  They are also busy with end of school and field trips for our local students and students from the surrounding counties. Jobs will also be provided for the summer through an agreement with Cherokee Historical Association to provide parking and shuttle service for Unto These Hills. The Truck Department’s work load will increase with the summer tourism season.

The child care centers will see an increase in full-time students during the summer months in their after school programs.  There will be summer trips and outdoor activities.  The children and staff at the Children’s Home will become involved with summer activities that will include the outdoors, caring for a garden and learning more about their culture.

The Club’s Administration Department is in the process of preparing budgets for the new fiscal year as well as preparing to close out the current fiscal year that ends June 30.

And most Club departments will be providing jobs for high school and college students through the Club’s On-the-Job-Training program that has been offered for many years.

As we approach this busy time, we keep in mind the Club’s motto, “By Work and By Prayer” to keep us grounded and focused on the responsibility we are given each day.  We are grateful to be able to provide the services we offer and it is our sincere hope that the Boys Club can continue to provide these services, employment opportunities and vocational and leadership training for the youth of our community.

2013 MOTHER’S DAY

Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood.  It is an occasion that is celebrated all over the world.  The following poem has appeared in previous Boys Club One Feather Reports and Bulletins over the years, but it seems only fitting to share it again.  Happy Mother’s Day to our mothers and grandmothers everywhere!
