RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $963,705 contract to Mountain Creek Contractors Inc. of Catawba to replace the bridge on Moose Branch Road over Long Creek in Robbinsville.
The bridge was built in 1962 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. While the bridge is still safe, it requires extensive maintenance and repair. Lane and shoulder widths also don’t meet current standards.
Work can start April 1 and is scheduled for completion by June 1.
This is one of 18 contracts totaling $102 million awarded by NCDOT in February for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 0.6 percent, or $638,695, below NCDOT estimates.
