North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has donated campaign funds he received from an Oklahoma man who has been accused of violating Florida’s gaming laws. Chase Burns gave McCrory a campaign donation of $4,000 which the governor has donated to the Durham (NC) Rescue Mission reported the News & Observer.
Burns was arrested in Anadark, Okla. on Tuesday, March 12 and charged with the following:
- Racekteering (one count)
- Conspiracy to Commit Racketeering (one count)
- Manufacture, Sale or Possession of Slot Machines (51 counts)
- Conducting a Lottery (51 counts)
- Keeping a Gambling House (51 counts)
- Money Laundering (51 counts)
Information from the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office states that Burns “is accused of supplying illegal gaming software to outlets in Florida, violating the state’s gaming laws.”
Burns’ wife, Kristin Burns, was arrested on Monday, March 11 and charged with one count of Racketeering, one count of Conspiracy to Commit Racketeering and four counts of Money Laundering.
“According to the affidavit, Burns and other owners of the gaming units claimed the money played and lost on the games was to be donated to a veterans group, Allied Veterans, which received less than 1 percent of the proceeds,” said information from the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office. “Prosecutors believe Burns earned more than $290 million on the gaming software and units.”
