BASKETBALL: Lady Braves advance to Regional Finals

The Lady Braves (28-2) ended North Wilkes’ (25-3) season at the 1A Western Regional semi-finals at UNC-Greensboro on Tuesday, March 5.  Cherokee dominated the game en route to a 71-38 win and advance to a Saturday, March 9 game for the Regional Final against seven-time defending 1A state champions Bishop McGuiness (23-7).

Avery Mintz and Kendall Toineeta led the Lady Braves with 18 points each.

Cherokee led 21-11 after the first period and 40-22 at the half.  They ran away with it in the third period outscoring North Wilkes 23-6 to essentially put the game away at that point.

Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Deija Burgess 2, Alexis Maney 13, Miranda Smith 6, Bree Stamper 10, Tyra Standingdeer 1 and Jordyn Thompson 3.

The Lady Braves will leave Cherokee High School on Friday, March 8 at 10am and will be escorted out of town by a fire truck and police car.  They will travel down Acquoni Road, go across the bridge, go in front of the Fairgrounds and Council House and then through downtown Cherokee.  Fans are encouraged to come out and show their support!
