BASKETBALL: Cherokee sweeps Mitchell, Andrews

Cherokee varsity basketball teams swept Mitchell on Thursday, Dec. 13 and Andrews on Friday, Dec. 14.

The Lady Braves (9-0) remained unbeaten as they beat Mitchell 81-55 and Andrews 62-24.

Jordyn Thompson and Bree Stamper led Cherokee against Mitchell with 17 points each.  Cherokee jumped out to an early 25-12 lead after the first period and led 48-27 at halftime.  They outscored Mitchell 33-28 in the second half to take the win.

Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Kendall Toineeta 16, Miranda Smith 5, Alexis Maney 3, Avery Mintz 11, Brianna Jumper 2, Deija Burgess 9 and Angel Saine 1.

Sarah Robinson led Mitchell with 15 points followed by Madison Spurling with 12.  Other Mitchell scorers included:  Tayler Duncan 1, Faith Bailey 6, Kennedy Atwood 5, Monique Anderson 7, Cassie Bufferson 2 and Caitlin Blevins 7.

The next night, against the Lady Wildcats of Andrews, Cherokee’s Avery Mintz outscored the entire Andrews team as she poured in 26 points.

Andrews actually led 9-7 after the first period, but the Lady Braves turned it on from there and outscored the Lady Wildcats 22-2 in the second period to lead 29-11 at halftime.  Cherokee continued their run in the second half outscoring Andrews 21-9 in the third period and 12-4 in the final period to take the win.

Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Bree Stamper 3, Jordyn Thompson 6, Kendall Toineeta 15, Deija Burgess 3, Le Le Lossiah 2, Alexis Maney 6 and Miranda Smith 1.

Rachel Moore led Andrews with 9 points.  Other Andrews scorers included:  Carleigh Davis 2, Marissa Reid 2, Staci Self 4, Tori Trammell 6 and Jacqueline West 1.

The Braves (7-2) beat Mitchell 73-60 and Andrews 81-58.

Seth Littlejohn poured in 25 points to lead Cherokee against Mitchell.  The first half was close with Cherokee leading by three (34-31) at halftime.  The Braves outscored Mitchell by 10 points in the second half to take the 13-point win.

Other Braves scorers included:  Jesse Toineeta 4, Raven Frankiewicz 19, Darius Thompson 8, Dustin Johnson 9, Derrick Ledford 5 and Silas Reed-Littlejohn 3.

Michael Vaughn led Mitchell with 16 points followed by Austin Mask with 12.  Other Mitchell scorers included:  Blake Davis 3, Sam McKinney 3, Cody Willis 3, Cory Blevins 8, Jennings Greene 8 and Dylan Forbes 7.

Cherokee jumped out early against Andrews and led 24-11 after the first period and 45-28 at halftime.  Dustin Johnson led the Braves with 19 points followed by Seth Littlejohn with 16.

Other Cherokee scorers included:  Jesse Toineeta 8, Darius Thompson 12, Raven Frankiewicz 7, Chris Queen 8, Silas Reed-Littlejohn 3, Dillon Bird 3 and Eli Littlejohn 5.

Dakota Bateman led Andrews with 25.  Other Andrews scorers included:  Josh Oquendo 10, Logan Allen 3, Michael Carpenter 10 and Aaron DeVore 10.
