BASKETBALL: Cherokee boys, girls rout Nantahala in opener

Cherokee basketball is off to a great start as both the boys and girls varsity teams routed Nantahala in the season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Led by Dustin Johnson with 17 points, the Braves (1-0) won 97-8.  The score was 42-3 after the first quarter and 64-4 at halftime.  Other Braves scorers included: Jesse Toineeta 14, Seth Littlejohn 12, Derrick Ledford 12, Brandt Sutton 9, Darius Thompson 9, Stephen Swan 8, Chris Queen 6, Hunter Lambert 4, Eli Littlejohn 4, and Raven Frankiewicz 2.

The girls game was also a blowout with the Lady Braves (1-0) winning 73-29.  Avery Mintz led the way with 20 points as Cherokee put it away early.  The Lady Braves led 23-2 after the first quarter and 44-9 at halftime.  Other Lady Braves scorers included:  Kendall Toineeta 10, Le Le Lossiah 9, Deija Burgess 9, Jordyn Thompson 8, Angel Saine 7, Brianna Jumper 7, Kaycee Lossiah 2, and Miranda Smith 1.
