John Alan Smith, 46, of the Buchners Branch Community went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at his residence. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of Lucetta French of Cherokee and the late John Lloyd Smith who died in May of 2012. He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran having served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his fiancée, Tracy Wolfe and her daughter, Layla; one son, Noah Bolden of Canton; two sisters, Sherry Baldwin of Charleston, SC, Dianne Smith of Murphreesboro, Tenn.; one half-sister, Leigh Adair of Cherokee; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Wrights Creek Baptist Church. Chaplain Lewis Hardin will officiate. Burial was in the Smith Family Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Steve Youngdeer Post # 143.
