 N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a $1.3 million contract to Harrison Construction Company, a division of APAC-Atlantic of Knoxville, Tenn., to resurface various sections of road in Graham County.

The roads to be resurfaced include:

  • 1.2 miles of U.S. 129 from Airport Road north to Main Street in Robbinsville;
  • 0.9 miles of the U.S. 129 Bypass through Robbinsville;
  • 1.6 miles of N.C. 28 from N.C. 143 to Lower Stecoah Road in Stecoah; and
  • 2.2 miles of West Buffalo Road from the bridge over West Buffalo Creek to Hard Slate Road in the West Buffalo community.

Work can begin as early as Aug. 27 and should be completed by June 28, 2013.

This is one of 24 contracts totaling $119.9 million recently awarded by Conti for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 9.5 percent, or $12.6 million, below NCDOT estimates.

Since Gov. Perdue took office in January of 2009, NCDOT has awarded 678 highway contracts totaling $ 4.7 billion to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to jobs and educational opportunities. Gov. Perdue continues to support immediate jobs in the construction sector and the goal of ensuring that our transportation network facilitates access to jobs, education and healthcare for the future.
