BUS DRIVERS RECEIVE TRAINING

     On Monday, July 23 and Tuesday, July 24, all of the Club’s Bus Drivers received a four-hour block of training on Defensive Driving for the Bus Driver. Course instruction was provided by Ray Kinsland.  All Bus Drivers are required by law to receive this training.  The Bus Department is also scheduled to receive CPR and First Aid Training August 1 and 2.

 

MORE TRAINING

     On Monday, July 16 several members of the Club’s staff attended a customer service seminar in Asheville. The seminar was titled “How to Be an Outstanding Receptionist”.  The following Club employees attended:  Leslie Lossiah from the Family Support Services Department; Cindi Squirrel from the C&F Department; Beth Bradley from the Administration Department and Martha Wolfe from the Graphics Department. 

BOARD NOMINATIONS

     The Cherokee Boys Club’s Election Committee accepted nominations for the 2012-2014 Board of Directors for the Club during the week of July 16 through July 20.  The following people were nominated and have either agreed to run, or their decision to run is pending, in the Aug. 23 Election:  Albert Arch, Cory Blankenship, Terry Bradley, Casey Cooper, Albert Crowe, Sheila Davis, Eddie Huskey, Dwayne “Tuff” Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Elbert “Lumpy” Lambert, Monica “Tigger” Lambert, Robert Lambert, Dan McCoy, Lawanda French Myers, Brenda Oocumma, Tiffani Reed, Sean Ross, David Stamper, Pam Straughn, Nancy Taylor, Monica Wildcatt and June Wolfe.

     Five additional nominees were contacted but declined to run when contacted.  The Club’s Election Committee will confirm candidate eligibility for each of the nominees and a complete list will be posted in the next issue of the One Feather.

     Five Board members will be elected in the Aug. 23 election to serve a two-year term beginning Oct. 1, 2012 and ending Sept. 30, 2014.  Two outside business members will be appointed by the new board and one representative of the Boys Club’s Board is appointed by Tribal Council.  A representative from the student body of the school is elected by the student body to represent the School on the Board.
