CHEROKEE RUNNERS

The Cherokee Runners started their month running the Pigeon Forge Midnight 8K and finished with the Maggie Valley Moonlight 8K.  In between these races, some runners competed in the Main Street Mile in Waynesville while Elnora Thompson ran the Daniel Boone 10K.  Members of Cherokee Runners placed in almost every race and good times were shared by all.

In addition to organized races, the group had its first yardsale at BIA mid-month to raise money for general group activities.  Stephan Swimmer is once again coaching speedwork and hill sessions each Tuesday at Thursday.

Anyone that wants to improve their time and endurance is welcome to come.  Speedwork takes place at the new CHS track and hill sessions are conducted at Unto These Hills.  There have also been several  group long runs – some on the Oconaluftee River trail on to Job Corps and others at Tow String through Smokemont on to Cabin Flats.  Runners also cross train in various ways from swimming, strength/conditioning, step aerobics, and spinning, among others.

The next regular meeting will be held on Friday, Sept. 2 at Age Link.  Anyone, regardless of fitness level or goals, is welcome to join the Cherokee Runners.
