Ben Edward Marmon – obituary

     Ben Edward Marmon, 76, of Cherokee passed away on August 23, 2011 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Ben was a veteran of the US Army, having served as a paratrooper, and was the Sergeant on the flight that brought Elvis Presley back to the US from Germany. Ben was retired from River Valley Campground after 52 years of service.

     He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Wolfe Fuller, and a sister, Miriam Wolfe. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Annabelle Arch Marmon, a very special daughter, Trinniti Marmon, daughters, Angel Marmon, Sugar Arch and Obie Swimmer; his son, John Marmon; grandchildren, Tasha and Johnny Martinez and Travis Arch; great grandbabies, Marybelle and Zach Martinez-Arch, and sisters, Mary F. Lambert, Carol Long and husband Butch; and several nieces and nephews; and cousins. He is also survived by his other special family, Mike, Myra, and Kristina Cloer, Kym and Joe Parker, and many friends and family of River Valley Campground.

     The family received friends at Cherokee Methodist Church at 4pm on Thursday, August 25, where the body remained until the service which was held at 11am on Friday, August 26. Burial followed at the Marmon Family Cemetery. The Rev. Roland Whitaker and the Rev. Bo Parris officiated. Pall bearers were employees of Cherokee Enterprises. Long House Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
