EBCI tribal members to graduate from Smoky Mountain High School

     Smoky Mountain High School Graduation commencement is Thursday, June 16 at 7pm at the Ramsey Center on the Western Carolina campus with Bob Reid as the guest speaker.  There are 10 EBCI tribal members set to graduate.   

     Tiffany Cooper, of the Painttown community, is the daughter of John and Katie Cooper.  She received a Tribal Council Achievement Award and plans to attend Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee majoring in Veterinary Technology.

     Kendra Crowe, of the Painttown community, is the daughter of Denise Ashenfelter.  She received a Tribal Council Achievement Award and plans to attend a four year university to study sports medicine.

     Matthew Crowe, of the Wolfetown community, is the son of Sheila Price and grandson of Mollie Price.   He received a Tribal Council Achievement Award and played Junior Varsity basketball. Matt plans to attend Southwestern Community College.

     Chelsea Cucumber, of the Wolfetown community, is the daughter of Vicki and Jimmy Cucumber. Chelsea received the Principal Chief’s Award and a Tribal Council Achievement Award. She was a member of the Junaluska Leadership Council and the National Art Honor Society. She also was a member of the varsity softball team.  Chelsea plans to attend Western Carolina University and major in Social Work.

     Kristan Nicole Cucumber, of the Wolfetown community, is the daughter of Vicki and Jimmy Cucumber. Kristan received the Principal Chief’s Award and a Tribal Council Achievement  Award. She was a member of the Junaluska Leadership Council and the National Art Honor Society. She plans to attend Western Carolina University and major in Social Work.

     Dusty French, of the Big Cove community, is the son of John French and Tracy Tiger. Dusty received the Principal Chief’s Award and a Tribal Council Achievement Award. He plans to attend East Carolina University to pursue a career in Mathematics.

     Benito Ray Mendia, of Cullowhee, is the son of Millie Seagle. He received the Principal Chief’s Award and the Tribal Council Achievement Award and plans to enlist in the US Marine Corps after graduation.

     Mary Taylor, of the Yellowhill community, is the daughter of Denise Taylor. Mary received a Tribal Council Achievement Award. She plans to attend a four year university and major in Political Science.

     Josh (JT) Trejo, of the Birdtown community, is the son of T. and Chickie Trejo.  JT received the Best All around Tribal Council Achievement Award. He also received the Best in Class award for Show Choir at Disney World. JT was also crowned Smoky Mountain’s homecoming king and he was a member of the varsity football team. He plans to attend Mars Hill College.

     Cory D. Wilson, of the Wolfetown community, is the daughter of Beth Calhoun .  He received a Tribal Council Achievement Award and plans to attend college for a nursing degree.
