Deborah Grant, Cherokee Preservation Foundation finance officer, will graduate from the Leadership North Carolina program later this week.
“Leadership North Carolina was a great experience for me,” said Grant. “I learned so much about the resources and diversity of our entire state, and just as we are to think globally and act locally, now I have a big picture of North Carolina that I can draw on to help address issues in our region.”
“We are not as remote as we think we are sometimes. I’m sure that local opportunities and challenges will arise where I can apply what I’ve learned and draw on the expertise of the people I’ve met through the program.”
Grant is a Certified Public Accountant and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University. She is the former Chief Financial Officer for the Museum of the Cherokee Indian.
Susan Jenkins, Cherokee Preservation Foundation executive director and former LNC board member commented, “We are so pleased that Deborah took advantage of the Leadership North Carolina program and admire the time and effort she has put into it. With the program’s focus on the environment, health and human services, education, government and economic development, what Deborah has learned and the contacts she has made will be invaluable to us at Cherokee Preservation Foundation and will be equally helpful to the EBCI and the region.”
Brian Etheridge, LNC president, related, “Our state is at its best when citizens from every corner of North Carolina are engaged. Deb has embarked on a journey over the past seven months that took her across our state learning from decision makers and policy experts with a focus on how she and her fellow Leadership North Carolina participants can continue to move North Carolina forward.”
“Our program and her fellow classmates are richer due to her participation and her perspective. Deb will join a cadre of over 850 outstanding leaders who have graduated from the Leadership North Carolina program and are dedicated to helping make the most of what our state has to offer.”
The mission of Leadership North Carolina is to “inform, develop and engage committed leaders by broadening their understanding of and involvement in issues and opportunities facing our state,” information from LNC states.
