Madison Crowe has cheered for the Cherokee Braves since she was a little girl.  Now, she’ll trade her maroon and gold pom poms for blue and gold as she has made this fall’s Mars Hill College cheer squad.

“The feeling is amazing,” she said when asked how it felt to be able to continue her cheer career in college.  “Not only has this always been my lifelong dream, but I feel as if I have paved the way for future Cherokee High School cheerleaders.”

Tryouts were held several weeks ago.  They each were judged on a cheer, chant, jumps, stunting ability, dance and overall skill.

“I made the squad April 2 and the following Saturday we started preparing for the season,” Madison said.  “During the summer, we have a daily workout regimen and will attend UCA college cheer camp before fall semester starts.”

Madison’s parents, Radonna and Peanut Crowe, related they are both ecstatic about her accomplishment.  “I can’t describe how proud we are of her,” said Radonna.  “I was fortunate to get to watch her tryout and to be there when the coach called her name.  My first word was ‘YES’!”

“I held my composure until she came over to me with the biggest smile and giggling.  Then, I hugged her.  We jumped up and down and I told her congratulations and that I was proud of her.  By the time we left the gym, I was shaking and crying.”

Peanut told his daughter with a big grin, “I’m proud of you Madi.  I knew you could do it.”

Radonna added, “My little girl is going to cheer in college.  What an amazing feeling!  We have known since her first peewee cheerleading practice, when she was six years old, that she absolutely loved to cheer.”

“Thank you Samantha-Crowe Hernandez, Jessica Daniels and Mary Sue Casey for believing in my daughter and giving her the tools she needed to get to where she is and Cherokee High School for supporting cheerleading and competitive cheerleading!”

Mars Hill, located in Mars Hill, NC, is a member of the South Atlantic Conference and plays teams such as Newberry, Wingate, Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne among others.

At the school, Madison plans to major in zoology and minor in biology.   She plans to attend veterinary school following graduation from Mars Hill.

Her life goal is “to one day open my own practice and care for the critters of the world.”
