Cherokee Basketball players receive All-Conference nods

Coach Chris Mintz was named "Coach of the Year" for the Big Smoky Mountain Conference.

              Several Cherokee High School basketball players have been honored for their play this past season.  Senior Rayna Davis was named first team All-District and Avery Mintz was named third team All-District.  Both were also named to the Smoky Mountain All-Conference team along with teammate Paige Jackson.   Lady Braves head coach Chris Mintz was named Coach of the Year in the Big Smoky Mountain Conference.

               Three other Lady Braves received All-Conference Honorable Mention nods including Elizabeth Wahnetah, Alexis Maney and Kelsey Jackson. 

                “You know this season was really special,” said Coach Mintz.  “We worked really hard to get what we got.  The girls put so much time and effort into it and it was just a real pleasure to coach them.  It was one of the best years I’ve had coaching.” 

                The Lady Braves ended their season at 23-5.  They won the 1A-West Sectional Championship by beating Highlands 53-32 on Friday, Feb. 25.  They ended up losing in the State Regional semi-finals to eventual state champion Bishop-McGuinness.

                The Cherokee Braves team also had three players receive conference recognition.  Tsaladi Sequoyah was named to the All-Conference team and Greg Bradley and Greg Tisho both received All-Conference Honorable Mention.
