VANCOUVER, Wash.  – The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in Vancouver, Washington, has awarded the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF) a $225,000 grant for its project titled “Establish Development Program.”

The grant will make it possible for the NACF to hire a full-time staff development director in 2011.

“We are extremely grateful for this grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, which will give us the staff resources we need to continue increasing our endowment, securing funding to increase operations and programming, and developing and maintaining relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors,” says President and CEO T. Lulani Arquette. “The development director position is the keystone for building our own resources to a scale that will allow us to permanently serve both our Native constituents and their contribution to the larger community that all of us share.”

The NACF is searching for an experienced candidate who is deeply steeped within the funding landscape, sensitive to the values inherent in relations with Native communities, and visionary in terms of creative development efforts. The position will require academic training, demonstrated success in the field, familiarity with a broad range of Native communities, and the capacity to develop interest in the NACF on a wide variety of fronts.

The expectation is that the position will be held for at least five years; and the ideal candidate should be approaching a peak arc in his/her career. The search firm Moran Company, Leawood, Kansas, has been hired to conduct the search. Visit https://www.morancompany.com/current-searches-2/current-searches.htm to view the position description.

“Foremost among all these qualificiations, the candidate must be inspired by and possess a passion for Native arts and cultures and develop relationships between NACF’s constituency and its donors,” says Arquette.

Incorporated in 2007, the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, located in Vancouver, Washington, is a permanently endowed national organization dedicated exclusively to the revitalization, appreciation and perpetuation of Native arts and cultures. In late 2010, the Foundation awarded its first grants totalling $394,319 to 26 American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian artists and organizations in 12 states.
